Below is just one feature from our new section called Farm Experiences going live Monday!

This is what Emily had to say:

"As a student of the University of Minnesota Duluth, halfway through my college career I decided to change my major to Environment Sustainability and Geography. I thought the job opening at the UMD Land Lab would be a great opportunity to get hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture. On my first day, everyone welcomed me and made me feel like I belonged there. Everyone was eager to teach me new skills. My new manager and coworkers shared previous knowledge, new ideas, and community involvement opportunities with me. For the first time in my life, I learned where my food came from along with the benefits of organic farming for the soil and surrounding ecosystems. I learned of the interdisciplinary aspects of sustainable food systems. Being able to have a job at the farm helped me connect a lot of information I received through Sustainability courses to real-life. Not only did I learn so much, but there was a huge sense of community amongst everyone working there. My job at the UMD Land Lab was the most meaningful job I had. It got me outdoors, away from technology, where I would preform labor-intensive work for a good purpose. My time at the UMD Land Lab was special and has had long-lasting impacts on me personally and my outlook on life. It is definitely worth keeping and has potential to grow even more."
